Part of this can be yours if you enter our contest!

Just over two weeks ago, we kicked off the 2015 edition of our annual Charity Drive sweepstakes, where we’re urging readers to donate to charity for a chance to win some of the piles of vendor-supplied swag we can’t afford. to keep. Since then, Ars readers have put the generosity meter at 11, packed a combined total of over $21,000 in donations to Child’s Play and Electronic Borders Foundation until now ($21,112.60, to be exact).

That’s a great start and already within a stone’s throw of last year’s revenue of just over $25,000. However, we’re aiming higher than that…with two weeks to go until the January 4th deadline, I think we’ve beaten our all-time Charity Drive record of $28,713.52 from 2012 (my first year of being the contests). Let’s prove how deep Ars readers can dig for a good cause.

If that’s not motivation enough, please keep in mind that every donation helps resolve a battle of generosity between two deserving charities. This is the first year that the total money given to both charities in the sweepstakes is competitive; the EFF actually brought in most of the donation dollars until fairly recently, when a few generous Child’s Play gifts put it back on track.

The count currently stands at just under $8,700 for the EFF and just over $12,400 for Child’s Play. EFF donors tend to be more generous on average, with an average donation of more than $82, compared to an average of $50 for Child’s Play. If you want this to change (or keep the status quo) then donating is the only way to do it!

How it works

Donating is easy. Simply donate to Child’s Play with PayPal or donate to the EFF with PayPal, credit card or Bitcoin. You can also support Child’s Play directly by choosing an item from a specific hospital’s Amazon wishlist on their donation page. Donate as much or as little as you feel comfortable – every little bit helps.

Once that’s done, it’s time to register your entry into our sweepstakes. Just grab a digital copy of your receipt (a forwarded email, a screenshot, or just a cut-and-paste of the text) and send it to ArsCharityDrive@gmail.com along with your name, mailing address, daytime phone number, and e-mail address. email address before 11:59 PM ET Monday, January 4, 2016. (One entry per person, and each person can win up to one prize. US residents only. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. See Official Rules for details, including how to enter without making a donation. See also Ars Technica’s Privacy Policy.)

We will then contact the winners and let them choose their prize before January 31st. The selection will be made in the order in which the winners are drawn).

Don’t forget to check out the original competition list for a full list of over 100 prizes, including laptops, gaming consoles and an industrial Wi-Fi kit. Good luck and keep giving!
