Directed by Sean Dacanay, edited by Jeremy Smolik. The transcript is still in progress and will be ready in the next few hours.

In December we will have a “War Stories” video on the Strange world series, an unusual 90s adventure/platformer title in which the player takes on the role of escaped factory slave Abe in his quest to avoid turning into canned food. Filmed with help from Strange world creator Lorne Lanning, the video proved to be very popular – no doubt because Lanning makes for a damn compelling interview topic.

We’ve been getting a lot of feedback on the video since it aired, mostly asking for more Lorne, so we’re going to try a little experiment: instead of digging through the original and pulling out some more highlights, we just got the whole shoot of almost three hours exported for you.

Highlights for the full interview here include a more in-depth account of Abe’s origins, Lorne’s father’s wacky tales of vanishing world leaders and famous people on Arctic submarines, and a discussion of drug-driven motion graphics design.

Lorne goes deep, swears a ton, and takes us through the insane bad luck most of the Strange world titles experienced at release. He talks about using arcade games to meet ladies, what it was like growing up in a difficult household and how he worked his way up the ladder in the graphics industry.

If this turns out to be a fairly popular piece, we’ll probably be releasing full versions of other “War Stories” sitdowns over the next year or so. It’s a lot of work to prepare these multi-hour videos (which is why the transcript of these isn’t quite ready when published), but if you want them, we’ll send them!

So give it up for Lorne, folks. He’s strange, but we love him.
